AI for accountants: month-end without the manual matching.

AI for accountants takes the repetitive, rules-heavy work off your team: matching bank transactions to invoices, reading bills and receipts, chasing clients for documents and assembling month-end reports. We design and build these agents on the practice software you already run, with a person signing off anything the agent is not sure of.

Overview

Accounting runs on work that has to be right and looks much the same every month. That is exactly the work AI agents now do well: read a document, match it to a record, apply the firm's rules and flag whatever does not fit.

We are not selling a new ledger. Tensor Partners builds agents that sit on top of the accounting platform, bank feeds and inbox you already use (Xero is a common example), so your staff keep their tools and lose the keying. Every agent ships with an exception queue: anything it cannot match with confidence goes to a person instead of being guessed.

The proof is our own Reconciliation Agent. It reads live bank transactions, matches every credit against outstanding invoices, records the payments and flags exceptions for human review. Real money and real ledgers, reconciled automatically, not a demo running on sample data.

How an agent fits your practice

Agents sit on top of the accounting platform, bank feeds and inbox you already use. They read, match and apply the firm's rules, and anything they cannot match with confidence goes to a person.

Use cases

Where AI earns its place in a practice

  1. 01

    Bank reconciliation

An agent reads live bank transactions, checks every credit against outstanding invoices and records the payment once a match is confirmed. Anything it cannot match confidently is routed to a person for review, never forced.

  2. 02

    Invoice and receipt processing

Bills, invoices and receipts arrive as PDFs, photos and email attachments. Intelligent document processing reads the supplier, dates, amounts and tax, codes each line to your rules and queues it for approval in the ledger.

  3. 03

    Client document chasing

Missing statements, unsigned engagement letters, last quarter's receipts. An agent tracks what each client still owes you, sends specific, polite reminders on a schedule and updates the job when the document lands.

  4. 04

    Month-end and management reporting

Reports assembled from live ledger data on a fixed schedule, with the movements and anomalies already highlighted, so a reviewer checks the story instead of building the spreadsheet.

  5. 05

    Practice inbox triage

The shared inbox sorted before anyone logs on: client requests turned into a prioritised task list, bills routed to processing, noise set aside. The same pattern as our Triage Agent.

  6. 06

    Advisory meeting prep

Before a client meeting, an agent pulls the period's figures, notes what moved and drafts the questions worth asking. The partner walks in with a briefing instead of a blank page.

Case studies

Live systems, real-world application

A robot seated front-on at a desk, matching documents in a glass corridor.

Finance operations agent

Reconciliation Agent

A finance team was matching every incoming payment against outstanding invoices by hand. The agent now reads live bank transactions, matches each credit to an invoice, records the payment and flags only genuine exceptions for a human.

A robot sorting envelopes into neat stacks on a concrete counter, an orange mug beside them.

Inbox operations

Triage Agent

An agent that reads the morning inbox, separates signal from noise, turns actionable messages into a prioritised task list and delivers a daily brief of what needs doing and by whom. The day starts sorted.

FAQ

Frequently asked

01Can AI do bookkeeping for an accounting firm?

It can take on a large share of the repetitive parts: matching bank transactions to invoices, reading bills and receipts, coding to your rules and preparing reports. It should not make judgement calls on its own. We build agents that handle the clear-cut cases and route anything uncertain to a qualified person for review.

02Will it work with our accounting software?

Usually, yes. We build on top of the platforms you already run, connecting through their APIs instead of replacing them. Xero is a common example. If a system genuinely cannot be connected, the audit will tell you before you commit to a build.

03Is it safe to let an AI agent handle client financial data?

Only if it is designed for it. Our agents get the minimum access each task needs, log every action they take, and stop at an exception queue instead of guessing. What any model may see, and where the data lives, is agreed during the audit, before anything is built.

04Will AI replace accountants?

Not the judgement. AI takes the keying, matching and chasing, which frees qualified staff for review, advice and client work. We design agents as extra capacity with a person signing off, not as a replacement for the people who understand the numbers.

05How do we get started, and what does it cost?

With a fixed-price AI opportunity audit. We map how work moves through your practice, rank each opportunity by return and build effort, and price every build. You see the numbers before you commit to anything. Ask for the current audit price when you get in touch.
